You may have noticed that it’s been a little quiet over here on My Book Muse this past week and for good reason.
I keep DNF’ing everything I try read!
I get like this from time to time, especially when I am putting myself on a reading schedule or when trying to read a genre I’m not currently feeling. But seriously, I have picked up and put down at least 10 books in the past week.
I thought that maybe the blame is on Kristen Ashely considering I just binge re-read a bunch of her books this past month. There is nothing better or worse for a book hangover then stepping into a KA romance. All those alpha men?! Yummy.
But I think it might be something a little more troublesome.
I think I am just disappointed in the lack of quality. And this isn’t exclusive to just indie. I’m actually pretty surprised by what some publishers are putting out now a days. Everything just feels flat. Uninspired. Not original.
Trust me, I like tried and true favorites
The virgin and the manwhore? LOVE IT! The alpha male with a side of kink? GIMME MORE! The accidental pregnancy? I NEED IT NOW!
I am not above these types of characters or plot lines. I am all for it if they have their own originality. But I just feel let down by what is being produced and it’s causing a serious problem with my motivation to read.
Am I asking for too much?
I don’t expect every story to be like The Bronze Horseman or A Court of Thorns and Roses but I would like to not feel so damn irritated when I turn the page and discover the same story in front of my eyes.
Are my reading problems a book hangover? Sign of the apocalypse? Do you feel uninspired to read some of the newest releases? Am I expecting too much?
