“I love that you love me, professor.”
“I love loving you, beauty.”
Since their intense, passionate beginning, Professor Dean West and his wife Olivia have fought dark secrets and betrayal in order to save their marriage. Now reeling in the aftermath of a personal tragedy, Liv and Dean are driven further apart by a vindictive threat to Dean’s career.
Struggling to stand on her own for the first time in years, Liv is determined to defend her husband and prove herself. Then an unexpected letter dredges up old insecurities and endangers Liv’s newfound independence. As Dean fights for his professional life, he is forced to confront his worst fear when he discovers that he can’t protect his beloved wife from her own painful past.
“I’m yours,” Liv whispers. “I’ll always be yours. You told me once that I became your world the minute you saw me. It was the same for me. I’ll never forget it, Dean, the instant I looked up and saw you. Something opened in me, something I didn’t know existed. And then you reached out to touch me…I couldn’t believe how I was reacting, this intense, hot pull, like I already knew I belonged to you.”
When I first started this series I had no idea just how deeply it would touch my heart. Both Arouse and Allure left me in states of joy, heartache, longing and surprise and Awaken is no different.
Awaken starts out with Dean and Olivia separated by distance-not by heart- as they are trying to handle the malicious threat to Dean’s career.
Even from thousands of miles away, I can feel my husband. I feel his thoughts brushing against my skin, the beating of his heart in rhythm with mine. I feel him in the world, a powerful, unyielding presence who will forever be my shelter of safety and warmth. And because of that, the distance between us doesn’t seem quite so vast, and my aloneness not quite so alone.
Olivia and Dean have grown throughout this series, but they both still have their work cut out for them. The problem doesn’t lie in their devotion to each other. There is no question of the depth of their love for one another. The problems that have follow them are based on Dean’s over-protection of Olivia,
Mine. She’s mine. The possessiveness that grabbed me the instant I saw her is fathoms deep. It’s in my bones, my blood. It will never go away. And I don’t know what to do with my suspicion that it’s part of the problem.
Olivia’s dependence on Dean and the outside world that threatens to destroy them….
Awaken was an emotionally charged ending to this series. While I am sad to be saying goodbye to one of my favorite couples EVER, I cannot convey just how much Dean and Olivia have made a lasting impact on me. One of the biggest successes of this book is that Dean and Olivia were never boring. Nor did they have angst for the sake of it. Their marriage was far from perfect but the love, respect, and honor they had for one another, and the determination to face their obstacles, transformed this series from great to extraordinary.
Awaken did the love story of Dean and Olivia justice, and I cannot recommend this series enough.
