I received this book for free from Forever Romance in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
There's punishment-and then there's vengeance.
Nora Sutherlin is being held, bound and naked. Under different circumstances, she would enjoy the situation immensely, but her captor isn't interested in play. Or pity.
As the reality of her impending peril unfolds, Nora becomes Scheherazade, buying each hour of her life with stories-sensual tales of Søren, Kingsley and Wesley, each of whom has tempted and tested and tortured her in his own way. This, Nora realizes, is her life: nothing so simple, so vanilla, as a mere love triangle for her. It's a knot in a silken cord, a tangled mass of longings of the body and the heart and the mind. And it may unravel at any moment.
But in Nora's world, no one is ever truly powerless-a cadre of her friends, protectors and lovers stands ready to do anything to save her, even when the only certainty seems to be sacrifice and heartbreak…
“Soren could not live in a world without Nora. Kingsley could not live in a world without Soren.”
To say that The Mistress was one of my most anticipated books of 2013 is the understatement of the year. Tiffany has crafted a series that is provocative, intellectual, and extremely emotional. The last book in this series captivates the communion of love, lust and sacrifice that our Original Sinners have been endured for one another throughout the years.
I cannot say much about the plot without giving away many spoilers, but what I can say is that I was blown away from how the story unfolded. My feelings have continued to evolve with each book. With The Siren, I was Team Nora. With The Angel I was Team Wesley. With The Prince I was Team Kingsley as well as Team Soren. But with The Mistress, I am Team EVERYONE. Never have I been introduced to so many characters that have tugged on my heartstrings, haunted me at night, and made me ache for resolution. I could not have imagined nor asked for an ending that encompassed all of my wishes, but I was surprised at how Tiffany managed to achieve the feat of exceeding my expectations. A lot of books fall flat on the last installment and I am happy to say The Mistress was not one of them.
For those of you that have yet to start the series, I implore you to start today. These books are labeled as erotic but I feel that it pales in comparison to what they should be classified as. Yes, they are toe-curling, mouth-watering delicious, but they are emotionally charged, thought-provoking and beautifully written. They make you question and push boundaries, and above all have made me question my own definitions of happiness, friendship and love.
To sum up The Mistress and the Original Sinners Series as a whole is impossible. These stories and these characters have taken a permanent residence in my heart. I have laughed, cried, and been thoroughly aroused throughout this journey, and I know the best is yet to come.
