Can love survive when life gets Reckless?
When the band hits it big, Kiera and Kellan must ask themselves: Can their love for each other survive the constant pressures of superstardom? The friendships they've formed, the new family they've found, and the history they've forged will all play a part in helping them navigate the turbulent waters of the band's exploding popularity. A greedy executive hell-bent on success, a declining pop star looking for an edge, and a media circus that twists lies into truths are just some of the obstacles the lovers will have to overcome if they are going to remain together. Fame comes with a price-but will it cost Kiera and Kellan everything?
I remember the day I finished the Fifty Shades Trilogy. I was lost. I had never read a book/series like that and I became obsessed with finding my next read. Then I discovered Thoughtless by S.C. Stephens. I remember picking up my iPad and starting it around 11pm that night. That was the day I met Kellan Kyle.
He was sexy…
“I thought you might want a ride.”
He was intense…
“I know there’s something here. I know you want more. Tell me…and it’s yours.”
He was irresistible….
“I need you. Let me do this. I can make you forget him. I can make you forget you.”
…and then Kellan stole my heart….
“I’ve never wanted anyone, like I want you. Every girl is you to me. You’re all I see…you’re all I want.”
…and by that morning I was hooked. I became so invested in the lives of Kellan and Kiera. I instantly loved Kellan. He was a bad boy with the biggest heart of gold. With Thoughtless and Effortless the issues of of their past transgressions followed them. But starting Reckless it didn’t feel like there was a black cloud hanging above them. It started out with what us fans wanted most, Kellan and Kiera together. But little did I realize how fast that initial happiness would fade into reality.
Reckless is all about what happens to Kiera and Kellan when their private life and his famous one come together. Being a girlfriend of a musician I related to the same fears that Kiera and Kellan had. That lifestyle is meant to break you. That life is full of distance, temptation, gossip, and fear. How do you handle the demands of fame while trying to start a life with the person you love?
I have to say when I first started this series I HATED Kiera. She was selfish, manipulative, and so damn Thoughtless. But with Reckless I saw a different side of her. Kiera has evolved from that weak girl into a strong, likeable woman. I instantly gained a new found respect for Kiera. She put Kellan, and his career before her own wants and needs. And let’s just say Kellan needs a strong woman to back him up, because in Reckless their relationship is put to the ultimate test. And for once, neither one of them is to blame.
I spent my whole Saturday falling in love with Kellan and Kiera all over again. It was messy and scary and heartbreaking. There was a certain *issue* that left me in knots, tears, and fluent curse words. I was trembling and so beside myself I threw my book across the room and took a break. Trust me, Reckless is just as angsty, frustrating and passionate as Thoughtless and Effortless. And in my opinion, Reckless is the most romantic of the three.
For me, finishing this series was bittersweet. It was bitter because I did not want their story to end. To see these two characters grow and develop over these three incredible books is the whole reason I am a fan. I felt every pain, every smile, every weak-knee moment. Plus let’s not forget about the amazing Kellan Kyle. I fell so hopelessly in love with him over and over and over again. He is so much more than a sexy voice, and body of an Adonis. He is so kind, and thoughtful, and he loves so deeply.
“Kiera Michelle Allen, my life was empty before you stepped into it. I thought I had everything I needed, but only because I didn’t let myself want anything. And then I saw you, and you burned a hole straight through me. I have never wanted anything more in my life. And I have never been more terrified in all my life. In all my life,” he repeated.
Swooon <3 The love he has for Kiera is one I think ever girl dreams of. We want to be treasured, adored, and honored by a man willing to move heaven and hell to prove it. Be prepared for so many smiles, tears and butterflies.
Plus I didn’t want to say goodbye to Anna, Kiera’s sister, or Griffin and the rest of the D-Bags. By the end of Reckless I ended up with a little crush on Griffin. Yes, that rude, crude, womanizing Griffin managed to snake his way into my heart as well.
“Did you just fuck him into submission?” He held his knuckles up to me. “Nice.”
So while this review is mostly my personal love letter to Kellan, Kiera and the talented author S.C. Stephens, I want YOU to go into this with no knowledge of what happens like I did. Did I cry? Yes, multiple times. Did Kellan make me swoon? Yes, constantly. Did Reckless make me laugh? Uh, duh. Am I happy with the ending? Abso-fucking-lutely!
I don’t think this series could have ended any better than it did. While Thoughtless is my favorite book in the series, Reckless is a beautiful testament to the characters and the journey we have experienced with them over the past few years. Despite all the themes and subplots, the heart of this series is
