I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Emily Wayborn has made a decision.
She might not fully trust handsome and deadly Reeve Sallis, but he is the one person that gives her what she needs. With Reeve she can finally be herself. Submitting to him is the only thing keeping her grounded as the rest of her life falls apart. But the hotelier is a master at keeping secrets and as she continues her quest for answers someone is making sure she doesn’t find them.
Time is running out and she is questioning everything she thought she knew about friendship and love. She must now make an impossible choice that will determine if she will survive with her heart…or at all.
“You frustrate me beyond belief, Blue Eyes,” he rasped, then plunged his fingers inside me.
I’m just gonna come out and say that I was really nervous on reading this. In the past, sequels, duologies, hell even the second book in a series, are usually a let down for me. I know the reason for that is my expectations paired with how much I loved the first book. My recent review of First Touch is a testament to just how epic the first book in this duology is to me. So my fear that it wouldn’t live up, that it would fall flat, was valid but totally unwarranted. Last Kiss blew me away. It was just as sexy, suspenseful, and satisfying as the first and here’s why…
But as warm and tempting as he was, I couldn’t accept. His love was the sun, and I was ice and even though it felt so good to melt in his presence, I didn’t recognized what he changed me into. I didn’t know who that person was. All I’d ever been was what Amber had made me into. I didn’t know how to be anyone else.
Reeve Sallis. Light of life, fire of my loins #sorrynotsorry but that man is everything. You ever read a series and fall in love with the hero only to have him disappoint you as the series goes on. Well, I did NOT have that problem with Reeve. He remained true to his character throughout both books. He was just as mysterious and sexy and dare I say just as intimidating as he was First Touch. Better yet was the raw chemistry between Reeve and Emily. Between their kink and the mind-fuckery that fuels their passions, Last Kiss was such a delicious read. I honestly don’t want to say too much about the plot, because I would hate to spoil, but I started this around midnight and didn’t finish until I was done. It was too good to put down. Between the eroticism of Reeve and Emily’s relationship, and the utter suspense and mystery surrounding Amber, this was a near perfect read.
“I want to destroy you. Want to fuck you to pieces. Want to shatter you. Want to break you.”
The only reason why I didn’t rate it a full 5 star is just a minor issue I had. Emily kind of assumed a martyr-ish role when it came to View Spoiler »how she reacted towards Amber and Reeve and their past as well as their current situation. « Hide Spoiler I understand why she reacted and behaved the way she did. Her character was a little more vulnerable this time around and it wasn’t a bad thing. I think I just expected her to have a little more fight. But even with that minor issue, Last Kiss was everything and more. This was the perfect duology because it wrapped everything up without rushing or dragging on too long. I cannot wait to see what Laurelin has next in store for us because she just made a huge fan out of me.
