I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
When Cassie Taylor met Ethan Holt at acting school, sparks flew. She was the good girl actress. He was the bad boy about campus. But one fated casting choice for Romeo and Juliet changed it all. Like the characters they were playing, Cassie and Ethan's romance seemed destined. Until he broke her heart and betrayed her trust. Now the A-list heartthrob is back in her life and turning her world around. One touch at a time.
Cast as romantic leads once again, they're forced to confront raw memories of the heartbreaking lows and pulse-pounding highs of their secret college affair. But they'll also discover that people who rub each other the wrong way often make the best sparks.
“Love is weakness. That’s not the only thing Holt taught me, but it’s the thing I remember most.”
I have been waiting MONTHS to shout from the rooftops my love of this book! Bad Romeo has been hitting all the bloggers and the responses are extremely divided. People either love it (ME!) or they don’t (I refuse to say hate cause it’s just blasphemous to me) and I find it fascinating. You might want to steer clear if you are not a fan of:
2. Blue balls (or whatever they call it for the ladies)
3. MCs that make you want to pull your hair out
If you are a fan of one or more of those things or are willing to overlook them, Bad Romeo is a MUST read. This has easily become one of my favorite books of 2014.
“I tried to convince myself I wanted nothing from you and ended up losing everything.”
You ever start reading a book and you realize about 2% in that you are gonna love it? That’s how I felt when I started reading Bad Romeo. I attribute this to my girl crush on Cassie. She is a breathe of fresh air when it comes to heroines in New Adult. Cassie is L-O-L funny (her ode to Penis is particularly entertaining), bold and ballsy, and despite her being View Spoiler »a virgin « Hide Spoiler she is not the simpering kind. Cassie, in all her glory, meets her match with Ethan Holt. Ethan is cold, closed off, and despite what his body displays, wants NOTHING to do with Cassie. But one of the reasons why I love Cassie is because she is relentless and refuses to let Ethan blow her off. And it’s impossible for Ethan to really avoid Cassie when the chemistry between them is undeniable. Seriously, the pages of this book drip with sexual tension that seriously left me with a case of blue balls minus the balls. I know that delayed gratification is not for everyone but believe me when I say that this is one of the sexiest books I’ve ever read that View Spoiler »didn’t actually have sex until the last 10%. « Hide Spoiler
“Everyone else is just going to be second best for us. Don’t you get that?”
But Bad Romeo is more than just a fun, sexy good time. I was blown away by the amount of detail and realism that came with all the ins and outs of the performance arts. It reminded me a little of Losing It by Cora Carmack and I’m a huge fan of how the play and acting was incorporated with the characters. All of these elements came together and delivered in a big way. I am a HUGE fan of the characters, this series, and this author and am so excited for Broken Juliet to release.
1. One of the elements of BAD ROMEO that I loved was all the details of the rehearsals and productions. Were you in the performing arts or was this something you researched prior to writing?
I’m actually a classically trained actress, so I have a lot of experience in the professional theater world as well as drama school. They say write what you know, right? J
2. What Shakespearean quote would you say best describes Cassie? Ethan?
It probably comes as no surprise that both of these quotes are from Romeo and Juliet.
Cassie: “Don’t waste your love on somebody, who doesn’t value it.”
Ethan: ” Beautiful tyrant, fiend angelical, dove-feather raven, wolvish-ravening lamb!”
3. One of my favorite scenes between Cassie and Ethan was when they rehearsed a certain love scene between Romeo and Juliet. Let me say that I am STILL fanning myself over it. What was your favorite scene?
Hahaha! I admit, I like that scene as well. But I think my favorite scene was their first kiss. There’s something about first kisses that just makes me swoon. Once you’ve kissed someone, going back to how you were before that kiss isn’t really an option.
4. I’ve been following you on Wattpad and I love the extra scenes you have from Ethan’s POV. Would we be seeing any of his POV in BROKEN JULIET?
Well, yes and no. Ethan never takes over the narrative, but you may remember he keeps extensive journals. Thass awl I’m gonna say.
However, I love writing stuff from Ethan’s point of view, so I’m definitely not ruling out more outtakes from him.
5. If you could give us a sneak peak and describe BROKEN JULIET in 5 words or less, what would they be?
True love conquers all 🙂
