AN UPTIGHT BRITISH EXECUTIVE. AN ADVENTUROUS AMERICAN NEWBIE. A SEXY INTERNATIONAL SCANDAL IN THE MAKING.
New York Times and #1 internationally bestselling author Christina Lauren’s Beautiful and Wild Seasons series hook up in Beautiful Secret for an erotic intercontinental romp that celebrates the best of both worlds!
When Ruby Miller’s boss announces he’s sending her on an extended business trip to New York City, she’s shocked. As one of the best and brightest young engineers in London, she knows she’s professionally up to the task. The part that’s throwing her is where she’ll be spending a month up close and personal working alongside—and staying in a hotel with—Niall Stella, her firm’s top urban planning executive and The Hottest Man Alive. Despite her ongoing crush, Ruby is certain Niall barely knows she’s alive…until their flirty overnight flight makes him sit up and take notice.
Not one for letting loose and breaking rules, recently divorced Niall would describe himself as hopeless when it comes to women. But even he knows outgoing California-girl Ruby is a breath of fresh air. Once she makes it her mission to help the sexy Brit loosen his tie, there’s no turning back. Thousands of miles from London, it’s easy for the lovers to play pretend. But when the trip is over, will the relationship they’ve built up fall down?
“It’s an all-too-common predicament,” Bennett added dryly. “Knockout intern. Boss in denial.”
The Bastard Series is one that I drop everything I wait on bated breathe for. I LOVE this series! I had the pleasure and privilege to visit the lovely ladies of Simon and Schuster (Atria & Gallery) this past February with a few of my blogger friends and managed to snag an ARC of this bad boy! I normally try to read within a month of release day but if there is one thing you should know it’s that I have no self-control when it comes to series I love and authors that are insta-buy. Because of that, I have been waiting 2 months to tell the world just how great Beautiful Secret is! It surprised me in the nicest of ways and I think that anyone who may have struggled with the previous books would feel differently about this one. The biggest reason is because of Niall Stella.
“For some reason I was unable to call him by only his given name. Niall Stella was a two way name honor, like Prince Harry or Jesus Christ.”
Unlike his dirty birdy brother, Max Stella AKA one of the fictional loves of my life, Niall is one leading man that caught me off-guard. If you compare him to the past heroes of this series, there is no comparison. He is an absolute gentleman in the truest sense of the word. He is one of those men that doesn’t believe in acting on feelings like desire or lust unless there is something more emotionally involved, like say love. He is the kind of man that because he doesn’t engage in casual sex it means that much more when he finally does. It’s quite rare to read about men like him in books now a days and very refreshing.
In fact, what I wanted most was to be with Ruby. How is it possible, I thought, to have become infatuated in a matter of days? In a space of time and that could still be easily measured in hours?
But while Niall was delightful, I did struggle with a couple things. Ruby, is one thing I struggled with. I’m not sure if I can pinpoint it, but I didn’t find myself charmed with her the same way I was with the previous heroines of this series. Don’t get me wrong, Ruby was hilarious, a real Murphy’s Law situation, and her internal dialogue had me cracking up, but I just didn’t connect with her on an emotional level. Thankfully, that didn’t take away from Ruby and Niall’s chemistry. The sexual tension between the two of them was delicious and what I come to expect from the Christina Lauren duo. I also struggled a bit with the conflict between Niall and his past and how it effected his present with Ruby. Sometimes he was just a little too daft and it lead to some angst that I am not a fan of. Overall tho, on a whole, I really enjoyed Beautiful Secret. It was in a way more tame than the previous books in the series but for what it lacked in naughtiness it made up for in sweetness.
