Obsession, defined as the domination of one's thoughts or feelings by a persistent idea, image or desire....
Chantel Rosenberg's passion for music and life had never shone brighter than the time she spent in Bordeaux France. It's a time when feelings arose and desires ran deep, a time that fundamentally changed her life.
A man living in seclusion, Phillipe Tibideau is haunted and plagued by memories he cannot disregard. Choosing to live a quiet life in his Chateau surrounded by the vineyards of France, he's left his passion for art behind.
However, the time has arrived to tell his side of a tale. A tale that has depicted him as a 'beautiful monster' and he's finally allowing someone close.
Close enough to ask questions. Questions he's not sure he wants to answer. Questions about her.
For up and coming journalist Gemma Harris, the pursuit of truth is what drives her and when a job of a lifetime presents itself there is nothing in the world that will stop her from taking it. Even if it does mean leaving her home for several months to stay at Chateau Tibideau, with him.
This is a story of what happens when three passionate lovers collide and the desire for truth, art and music merge.
Chateau Tibideau is a place full of unanswered questions, dark sinful desire and a beauty so hauntingly sad it will have you wondering how you will ever leave the same....
Blind Obsession is a tragic, haunting story about art, passion, obsession, desire, love, and loss.
I have taken inspiration and included a musical piece that wasn’t mentioned in the novel, but I think perfectly suits my feelings. Play this as you read on.
I have a couple disclaimers I must insist on before you read any further:
- This is dark erotica. These are not your fluffy, feel good, sex scenes going on. They are not only physically intense, but they are emotionally and psychologically mind-boggling. This is not your mama’s romance.
- If your looking for your standard ‘Happily Ever After’ or expecting one, you might be disappointed. I will elaborate further, but if a HEA is essential for you, I would suggest changing your expectations or picking up a different book.
With those little warnings out of the way, I have to say that I have been captivated by Blind Obsession.
This story centers around journalist Gemma Harris, artist Phillipe Tibideau, and his former lover and muse, Chantel Rosenberg.
Phillipe is a slave to his own past.
Why can’t I find release from this world we created?
Chantel is the very heart of him.
I love you. That is the beginning, and the that is the end. That is everything.”
and Gemma is caught in the middle.
I don’t know what it is you see, and I don’t know what you’re feeling, but when you bring her between us, something happens inside of me.”
Gemma moves into Phillipe’s home in France to uncover the story about his isolation and events that have deemed him the title of “beautiful monster”.
He is the enigmatic, mysterious artist, who is undeniably attractive, and he is the man who every woman wants to pose for, but he wants none of that. He only wants her. It all begins and consequently ends with Chantel Rosenberg.”
But Phillipe is cold, distant and hesitant to only tell his side of the story. Instead he gives Gemma a journal kept by Chantel.
She is the mystery that is wrapped tightly around the man I am trying so desperately to unravel.”
In Chantel‘s journal, the love between Phillipe and their respective arts collide in a tsunami of desire, obsession and all-consuming passion.
I’d heard about people falling in love, and I’d heard about lust. What I had never heard about was this all-consuming need to be inside another human being. I felt this desperate compulsion to become one with him. This was desire. This was to crave. This was what it felt like to want.”
As Gemma tries in vein to learn more about this man that has been vilified in the press, she finds herself becoming enraptured by not only Phillipe, but by Chantalle as well.
He touches me with every look he gives me, and she touches me with every word she tells me.”
What transpires over the course of this novel is an emotional and tragic tale of how the lives of three people intersect into a stunning, provocative, erotic feast for the senses.
I’m more annoyed than I probably should be, but all i can think about is the fact that she’s here again. She’s always here. “Because, Gemma, this is us.” he explains in a voice that’s now become somewhat detached. “We are three. Can’t you see that? Just like any moment of beauty, we’re all working in synchronicity to find that elusive moment, like that moment you and I found out in the vineyard…with her.”
This is not your standard erotica, nor is it your standard romance. This book will definitely take you out of your comfort zone.
I feel a loss of words while trying to describe just how haunting this story and these characters are. There were moments I felt profound loss, longing, sensuality, and sometimes perversion.
As for the ending, I know some people feel cheated. It is not your standard HEA but I think the impact of this story is how it does come together at the end. Some people will be pleased, and some will not. But that goes for any book.
The use of the interactive website for Blind Obsession takes this story to new heights. The collision of art, music, and the written word helped to convey the raw emotion of the characters and this story.
If your in the mood for something dark, decadent, and disturbingly enjoyable, I cannot recommend Blind Obsession enough. This story has left it’s mark on me and will stay with me for days to come.
