A sizzling hot, new SPIRAL OF BLISS spin-off novel from New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Nina Lane
“Do you ever let go, storm girl?” he asked. “Ever lose control? Ever surrender?”
“Never,” I whispered. “I never surrender.”
A smile of both promise and warning curved his beautiful mouth.
Atmospheric scientist Kelsey March is under siege. Her tornado research project is on the skids and she’s fighting conflict in her university department. So when irresistible bad boy Archer West suggests a hot, wild fling while he’s in town, Kelsey is unable to resist his sexy offer.
Kelsey and Archer embark on a intense, exhilarating affair. But soon their differences and private battles encroach on their desire, and Kelsey discovers that Archer is a storm she can’t control.(
“Heads… I leave,” he said. “Tails… I stay.” I swallowed to ease the dryness in my throat. “Do you always let fate make decisions for you?”
“Fate makes better decisions than I do.”
It is no secret that I am a HUGE fan of Nina Lane’s Spirals of Bliss series. Professor Dean and Olivia stole my heart with their story. So when I found out that Kelsey, Dean and Liv’s friend, would be getting her own story, I was more than excited. From the bits we saw of Kelsey in the previous series she establishes herself as a “take no shit” kind of gal. She tells it like it is, and I love that about her. But things get complicated when Dean’s brother, Archer, pulls up in town and finds Kelsey in his sights.
“…this was Archer West, a man who had crashed into my life like a lightning bolt and set it afire. I had the growing, unnerving sense that nothing would ever be the same again. Including me.”
Archer is the black sheep of the family. Not only is his relationship, or lack-thereof, with Dean abysmal but he finds himself even more on the outs once he starts pursuing Kelsey. But the chemistry and connection between the two cannot be denied. Kelsey, despite her resistance, understands Archer in ways that his own family cannot. For as straight laced as she tries to be, Kelsey is as wild at heart as Archer is. When the can no longer keep away from each other they decide to embark on a sexual relationship together, for as long as Archer is in town, with no strings attached. But their relationship quickly becomes more than physical.
“Archer was right. With him, I was everything I was. I knew that now. But what would I be when he left?”
Kelsey finds herself attached to Archer in ways she doesn’t want. Not only is he incredibly supportive and encouraging when it comes to her career, but when things in her personal life come crashing down she finds herself needing him instead of just wanting him. But Archer and Kelsey are complicated people with a complicated relationship and surrender has never been harder to achieve.
“I didn’t think Archer would ever fit in anywhere. He couldn’t. He was too bold, too fierce, too powerful. The world had to accommodate him, not the other way around.”
Nina Lane knows how to write one hell of a book with depth, passion, and tenderness. While Archer and Kelsey are no Dean and Olivia, they don’t need to be. Their chemistry, banter and connection stood on its’ own. Break The Sky was an enjoyable and sexy read.
