A twist of fate . . .
Devon Ravenel, London's most wickedly charming rake, has just inherited an earldom. But his powerful new rank in society comes with unwanted responsibilities . . . and more than a few surprises. His estate is saddled with debt, and the late earl's three innocent sisters are still occupying the house . . . along with Kathleen, Lady Trenear, a beautiful young widow whose sharp wit and determination are a match for Devon's own.
A clash of wills . . .
Kathleen knows better than to trust a ruthless scoundrel like Devon. But the fiery attraction between them is impossible to deny—and from the first moment Devon holds her in his arms, he vows to do whatever it takes to possess her. As Kathleen finds herself yielding to his skillfully erotic seduction, only one question remains:
Can she keep from surrendering her heart to the most dangerous man she's ever known?
I know many scientific facts about the human heart–not the least of which is that it’s far easier to make a heart stop beating entirely than to keep it from loving the wrong person.
There is something magical about Lisa Kleypas historical romances. I have yet to come across one that I didn’t enjoy immensely and Cold-Hearted Rake is right up there. Not only was this the first historical that she’s released in I believe 5 years (too long!) but it’s the start of a new series. Trust me when I say this was worth the wait!!!
I am a scoundrel, and she is a heartless bitch who’s entirely capable of looking after herself.
Devon is absolutely wicked and it’s been awhile since I’ve met a rake that made me feel all the things. He’s impossibly callous and a bachelor to the core. When he becomes indebted with an estate he ends up with more than he bargained for. Most especially when it comes to the inhabitants currently staying at the estate, one who just happens to be the late earl’s widow. Sparks fly between them, and not always in the sexy way. Devon and Kathleen are often battling it out amongst themselves and the banter between them is sharp and salty. Of course, this is foreplay at its’ finest, cause when things heat up between the two of them, Cold-Hearted Rake becomes almost impossible to put down.
Even if you don’t want me. Even if you choose not to be with me. I’m giving you all the time I have left.
But in true Lisa Kleypas fashion we get not only really good sexy times but a really swoony and emotionally satisfying story. I love that when I pick up a LK novel, regardless if it’s a rake, or a virgin, or both, no character or story is the same. I honestly never realized what a historical romance fan I was until I found myself re-reading most of her backlist and eagerly awaiting anything she had to offer. If you’re read and loved The Wallflowers, or the Hathaways, or have yet to start a historical for the first time, you cannot go wrong with Cold-Hearted Rake.
