I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Two years ago, Emily Burnham, had an epiphany about the shallowness of her life. And she made it her mission to become a different person…a better woman. Out from under the controlling thumb of her mother, Emily is tasting the real world for the first time. And she likes it.
Nixon Caldwell has served his time in the Marine Corps, surviving two brutal tours in Afghanistan. He is back home, surrounded by what he likes best…isolation. It's certainly the best way to avoid confrontation of the consuming guilt that is weighing him down.
When an accident brings Emily and Nix together, he soon learns he is not the master of his own fate. Struggling with his own pain, Nix tries to guard himself against Emily’s charms. He wants her in his bed, but he doesn’t want her in his heart.
Having grabbed life by the horns, Emily wants it all. But is she willing to accept just the small part of himself that Nix is offering? Can she reach the part of his soul that he has deemed to be Off Limits?
Emily Burnham is not the same girl we met in Off Sides.
Determined to follow in her brother Ryan’s footsteps, Emily is off at school, living her life, and trying hard to shed her trust-fund brat image.
But things get a little crazy the moment her world collides with Nix’s. Literally.
Nix, well Nix is kind of an asshole. He is a tattooed, closed-off, former marine. A man of little words, and most of them aren’t so nice.
When Emily finds herself in Nix’s debt, the two form an arrangement that has Emily working for him. Their interactions with one another are laced with
not only hostility, but with lust.
She had her hair up in a ponytail, exposing a delicate neck. I wanted to bite it. Then lick it to make it better. Then suck on it..hard…just so she’d know how hungry I was.
As Nix, unsuccessfully, tries to push Emily away, Emily refuses to scare easily and manages to get under his skin.
He’s clearly a man that doesn’t hand out compliments very often, which makes them all the sweeter when they come.
..and finally their attraction to one another, that has been building and simmering beneath the surface, erupts into this sexy, no-strings-attached affair.
Now… take off your clothes for me, Em. And do it slowly.
But as Nix and Emily continue sharing a bed, they find themselves sharing more than just their bodies.
I know I will probably never replicate that moment again. Ever. I know that Emily has just become so much more to me than she was just this side of ten minutes ago.
But despite the walls that start to come down between Emily and Nix, old habits die hard.
I have to say that I loved Off Sides, but Nix has stole my heart in Off Limits.
Let’s just get this out of the way. I love the asshole. Yes, I said it. I love the moody, cocky, crude guys. They are usually the most passionate. And Nix is pure passion. He is raw and vulnerable and so so so sexy.
The chemistry between Nix and Emily continuously builds and is formed on more than just good looks and cheap talk. There is genuine understanding and connection between these two that frames the whole novel.
And Emily has grown so much from her appearance in Off Sides. I always find heroines in novels the hardest to like or relate to. And while I don’t relate to Emily, I like her a whole lot. She is headstrong without being stubborn. She is persistent without being pushy. She wears her heart on her sleeve without being a doormat.
And for those of you that read Off Sides, you will love the appearances of Ryan and Danny, as well as the little intro we have with Nix’s brother Linc, who will have his own story in the upcoming, Off Record.
I loved Nix and Emily’s story and cannot wait to learn more about Linc.
